Finding Jobs in Clay: Two Powerful Approaches

Clay's Find Jobs feature helps users discover open job postings at target companies, making it a valuable tool for recruiters, job seekers, and sales teams. Whether you're identifying hiring trends, personalizing outreach, or enriching company data, this feature allows you to extract actionable insights from job listings.

In this lesson, we’ll cover how to:

  1. Use Find Jobs as a source to discover job openings
  2. Use Find Jobs as an enrichment to add hiring insights to existing company lists

Jobs as Source vs. Jobs as Enrichment

There’s two main ways to use Find Jobs: Jobs as Source or Jobs as Enrichment.

Find Jobs as a Source is best for:

  • Recruiters – Identify open roles at companies and backtrack to potential hiring opportunities.
  • Job Seekers – Search for relevant job openings and target the best-fit positions.
  • Sales & BDR Teams – Use hiring signals to filter and prioritize outbound prospecting (e.g., targeting companies with high BDR job openings for automation software outreach).

Find Jobs as Enrichment is best for:

  • Enriching existing company lists with job openings
  • Using hiring trends to score and segment companies
  • Identify growth-stage companies with aggressive hiring patterns.

Let’s dive into each.

How To: Jobs as Source

Sometimes, you might want to begin your search with jobs as the primary source. This approach is particularly useful for helping recruiters identify open positions and work backwards to the companies hiring, or for job seekers exploring new opportunities.

To start a job search from scratch:

  1. Open the Sources Modal – Click on Find Jobs from the sources list.
  2. Select Companies to Search From:
    • Search across all companies (broad search).
    • Search only within a specific company list (narrow, targeted search).
  3. Define Your Search Parameters:
    • Job Titles – Example: BDR, SDR, Business Development Representative, Sales Development Representative.
    • Location – Filter jobs by country, state, or city (e.g., United States only).
    • Job Type – Choose from full-time, part-time, contract, etc.
  4. Preview Your Results – Before running the full search, check the job count.
    • Example: Searching globally for SDR jobs may return 20,000+ results.
    • Narrowing to U.S. jobs only may bring it down to 6,800 jobs.
    • Filtering for full-time positions refines it even further.
  5. Run the Search & Import Jobs – Pull up to 1,000 jobs per query into a new Clay table.

By following these steps, you'll end up with a targeted list of job openings and their corresponding companies. From here, you can enrich this data further using Clay's other powerful features, such as adding company information via waterfalls or finding key people at these organizations.

How To: Jobs as Enrichment

The second method is ideal when you already have a list of companies that match your Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) based on attributes like size, industry, or headcount. In this scenario, you're looking to find open positions specifically within these pre-qualified companies.

Instead of searching for jobs broadly, you can enrich an existing company list by adding job data:

  1. Open Your Companies Table – Use a pre-existing list of companies.
  2. Add the Find Jobs Enrichment – This waterfall pulls data from:
    • PredictLeads
    • Google Jobs
    • Clay’s Native Jobs Database
  3. Choose Your Search Criteria:
    • Company Domain – Automatically added as an input.
    • Job Keywords – Optional filter for job roles (e.g., BDR, SDR).
  4. Run the First 10 Rows – Preview how many active jobs each company has.
  5. Extract Insights:
    • Identify companies hiring 3+ roles versus those hiring 500+ roles.
    • Determine growth-stage companies based on hiring velocity.
    • Write job data to a new table for deeper segmentation.

This method allows you to layer job data onto your already refined list of target companies, providing additional context and potential outreach opportunities.

Pro Tips for Job Searching in Clay

By mastering these two approaches to finding jobs in Clay, you'll be well-equipped to leverage job data in your prospecting, recruiting, or job-seeking efforts. Whether you're starting with jobs or enriching existing company data, Clay provides the flexibility and power to make your job search strategies more effective than ever. Here’s some tips for the road:

  1. Be comprehensive with your search terms. Since Clay doesn't yet have semantic search capabilities, include various permutations of job titles to ensure you capture all relevant openings.
  2. Use filters wisely. Start broad and then narrow down your results using location, job type, and other parameters to get a manageable and relevant list.
  3. Be mindful of API limitations. For example, Google jobs has a maximum of four keywords per search. Adjust your strategy accordingly.
  4. Iterate and refine. If you're not getting the results you expect, try expanding or modifying your keywords and search parameters.

Congrats!

Clay’s Find Jobs feature enables you to discover, track, and leverage job openings to refine prospecting and recruitment strategies. Whether used as a standalone source or an enrichment tool, job data is a powerful signal for targeting high-growth companies.
